Jerry Hollinger was born in Ephrata, Pennsylvania and has a Mennonite background. His parents owned Hollinger Market, a grocery store that focused on locally sourced and natural foods long before the concept really existed. He grew up with a love of cooking and after working as a private chef, line cook and sous chef for Jean Michel in Bethesda and then started his first business, a boutique catering company. He opened the Daily Dish, A Restaurant and Catering Company in June 2009 with Zena Polin. He enjoys making wholesome food that is reminiscent of family dinners surrounded by his parents and six brothers and sisters.
