I'm a Malaysian-born, Australian-based former restaurateur who's recognised as Sydney's High Priestess of Malaysian Cuisine. I quit my IT consultancy and took the plunge back in 2001 to start my own food business, and have never looked back. I've been recognised as one of the most influential Asian chefs on social media, with 1.9 million (actual) followers at its peak.I've done everything from market stalls to owning my own restaurant; from selling hot food to producing frozen meals and curry pastes that attracted the attention of big players like Costco, Jones The Grocer and Westfield.I've done television both in Australia and Asia, I've run cooking masterclasses, I've been invited to travel overseas, and I've collaborated with some pretty fantastic brands over the years. My website is recognised as one of the Top 100 Asian Food Blogs On The Planet.Most importantly, I've done it all without borrowing any money from the bank, and without hiring a PR agent or marketing expert; when life threw me a curveball with the birth of my severely-disabled child a few years ago, I was able to walk away from my restaurant with a decent profit.I'm constantly frustrated by the bad advice put out by so-called experts, and heartbroken for those who either never realised their dream of running their own eatery out of fear of failure, or worse, who did invest their life savings to fulfill their dream only to lose it all.
