As a child, I was not permitted to be in the kitchen much. I knew what my mom and grandma were cooking, but not how they cooked it, or why they used the techniques they did. Because of that, I got my love of food as an adult. I began just cooking family dinner while everyone hung out in the kitchen. It was our family time. Time to catch up on the days events, and to just be together. We were all very busy and did not get much time to be around one another, and this was the perfect time to bond as a family.Before long, I was making more and more flavorful dishes, and the kids were excited to be included. It quickly became a family event, and we would make cooking dates to make food. I wanted to be sure to offer my children opportunities I did not have in the kitchen. I began watching cooking shows on tv as they became more popular, and Gordon Ramsey quickly became my idol. When I was 40, I decided I wanted to pursue a culinary education. I went to school only to find it was too expensive to commute the 120 miles each day, so I left school and tried to self teach. After many months of frustration, I decided to return to school, and this is when I found Escoffier. I love their program and I will be able to use what I am learning to create beautiful savory and sweet dishes in my own cafe someday.
