In a continued partnership with KAABOO, Chef’s Roll once again presented this year’s ROCK ‘N CHEF COMPETITION at the KAABOO Music Festival. Chef’s Plate Los Angeles and San Diego Regional Qualifier were held to determine the four chefs that competed on Saturday, September 16th 2017.
Chef Brian Malarkey joined emcee Troy Johnson on the Palate stage taking us behind the scenes as Chef’s Plate Los Angeles Winner Alexander Suástegui, and San Diego Regional Finalists Jenny Goycochea, Paul Desrochers, and Scott Cannon went head-to-head.
Chefs were judged by a respected panel of culinary experts including Executive Chef at The Marine Room, Bernard Guillas; MasterChef Season 6 winner, Claudia Sandoval; Chef/Partner of Sweetfin Poké and Estrella, Dakota Weiss; Top Chef alum, Shirley Chung; and KAABOO ROCK’N CHEF ’16 Champion, Steve Brown.
On Round 1 & 2 chefs went head to head cooking with Heritage Berkshire Pork as the key protein. Chefs Jenny Goycochea and Alexander Suástegui moved on to the Final Round where they cooked Maple Leaf Farms duck breast as the key protein on their final dishes.
Ultimately Mexico City chef Alexander Suástegui took the victory, winning a black leather JENDE knife roll, a custom handmade James Cosimini knife and 2 VIP tickets to KAABOO Music Festival 2018.
