Breaking Bread Podcast

Founded by respected local food commentator Edwin Real (of Eating and Drinking in San Diego fame), and award-winning Executive Chef Jeff Bonilla, Breaking Bread is a food and beverage podcast with no filter, no limits and no bull. Jeff explains after meeting and hitting if off with Edwin at an Evolve Cuisine Forward event (the popular modernist pop-up dinner series Jeff created with then partners Chef Daniel Barron and Mike Yen), the two became friends.

“A couple years back I was always talking about how we need to get a “no bullshit” industry podcast started, but because of my busy schedule I just didn’t have time. Well just this last year I took an executive position at a property in Rancho Santa Fe that would allow me more free time. So I called some of my friends at different companies and pitched the idea of a no bullshit hospitality podcast – everyone was onboard. There really isn’t anything else like it, that’s honest and educational. So we are here now and going after it full steam ahead.”

As part of the (somewhat) regular monthly series, which has featured guests including Top Chef contestant Chad White and Mikkeller’s Bill Batten, Master Artisan and Creminelli Fine Meats founder Cristiano Creminelli recently sat down with the Breaking Bread duo to talk about the history behind the brand, his company motto “crafted with kindess”, share industry anecdotes, and more. In addition to appearing on Breaking Bread, as Creminelli Fine Meats looks to expand its artisan charcuterie offerings to restaurants and the food service market, Chef’s Roll hosted Cristiano as guest of honor at Bottega Americano, where local chefs and culinary industry gathered for a night of revelry and fine charcuterie.

Classically French trained Exec. Chef Jeff Bonilla has appeared on the Food Network’s ‘Cupcake Wars’, and put in stints at kitchens around San Diego, including Del Mar’s L’Auberge & Kitchen 1540 in addition to founding Evolve Cuisine pop-up dining events.
