Launched on Monday, September 12, Chef’s Roll was excited to announce its first Featured Ingredient Challenge in partnership with The Cherry Marketing Institute. We asked chefs to get their creative juices flowing and design a dish based around versatile Montmorency tart cherries in either frozen, dried, canned, juice or juice concentrate form. With their sweet-sour taste, Montmorency cherries can go in anything from salads and pies to gastriques and glazes. Montmorency Tart Cherries contest

Purchasing Montmorency Tart Cherries:

Prior to beginning recipe development, we ask that you first purchase Montmorency tart cherries in the form of your choice. Montmorency tart cherries can be found in most grocery stores and online in the following forms: frozen, dried, juice, juice concentrate, and canned. When at the grocery store, it will be helpful to read labels closely and look for the word “Montmorency” included on the ingredients list (vs. imported tart cherries). Some labels may not specify the word “Montmorency” on them, but may instead use the words “sour” or “tart” cherries. We also ask that you refrain from using sweet cherries (the varieties you’ll find fresh in markets) in the recipe you create as part of this contest. Please do not feature any branded packaging in your recipe photograph. This is important because The Cherry Marketing Institute represents all cherry growers and processors nationwide and try to refrain from favoring one brand over the other.
